Cybersecurity Hackathon for Girls: A Success Story Encouraging Girls to Pursue Careers in Cybersecurity

On September 30, 2023, the Rotary Club of Mount Everest Lalitpur, in association with Women in Information Technology and supported by Kumari Bank, hosted a successful cybersecurity hackathon for girls of Shree Rudrayanee Secondary School, Khona. Around 20 girls from grades 9-11 participated in the event.
The hackathon was a great opportunity for students to learn about cybersecurity and expand their skill set in security. Participants worked on a variety of challenges, including developing security solutions for real-world problems. The event also featured talks and workshops from industry experts, who shared their insights on careers in cybersecurity.
One of the highlights of the hackathon was the chance for participants to connect with industry professionals and experts. This was a valuable opportunity for students to learn from experienced professionals and get advice on how to succeed in the cybersecurity field.
We were pleased to see so many young girls participating in the hackathon and showing a keen interest in cybersecurity. This is inspiring, as it shows that the next generation is interested in pursuing careers in this important and growing field.
As being a collaborator of the event, we were overwhelmed by the positive response from the school and are grateful to all of the participants, winners, and other individuals who helped to make the hackathon a great success. We hope that this event will inspire more young people, especially girls, to consider careers in cybersecurity.
We believe that events like these are crucial in fostering the next generation of cybersecurity professionals and helping to bridge the gap in the industry’s skills shortage. We are committed to supporting and encouraging the growth and development of aspiring cybersecurity professionals, and we hope to see even more students and young people become involved in these types of events in the future.

Why cybersecurity matters for girls?

Cybersecurity is a rapidly growing and in-demand field, and there is a high demand for skilled professionals. However, women are underrepresented in the cybersecurity field. This is a problem because cybersecurity is essential for protecting businesses and individuals from cyberattacks.

Events like the hackathon that we hosted are important because they help to encourage girls to pursue careers in cybersecurity. By providing girls with the opportunity to learn about cybersecurity and develop their skills, we can help to bridge the gender gap in the cybersecurity field and create a more diverse and inclusive workforce.
We are committed to supporting and encouraging girls to pursue careers in cybersecurity. We believe that everyone has a role to play in protecting the digital world, and we want to make sure that girls have the opportunity to contribute to this important work.
